glad you decided to join, the interesting thing about being "outside" the Jehovahs Witnesses sphere of influence and posting on a forum like this; is that you realize that there really is no "right and wrong" concerning ones religious beliefs and dedications. There are many opinions; preferences and what becomes compelling is the climate of civility and respect in which these topics are discussed and shared. We all share such specific events in the "exiting from the JW mind se" and can all benefit from each others experiences.

by unique1 injust got off the phone with my mom which was mostly a pleasant conversation.
we were talking about moving around to different places and asked if we desire to see more of the us why don't we just pack up and go?
i stated that we wanted to adopt or have a child in a few years.

it would bother me too...
just ignore it; words are cheap. Accept your folks for who and what they are ( dedicated JWs) and continue on with your life...
....and about telling your husband what she said....well, if I think something will bother my wife ( especially something one of MY family said) , I just do not tell her....what she doesnt know will not hurt her. So what?
good luck, Frank

Catholic Priest GUILTY on all charges
by toladest inthe catholic priest paul shanley was just found guilty on charges of child rape.
he repeatedly raped a 6 year old boy.

pole....
I do not want to change the Jehovahs Witness faith anymore than I want to change the Mormans; the Jews or the Catholics; or any other religion for that matter.
My experiences growing up as a JW were all negative; it was not until I was able to distance myself from that religion and its stifling infuences that my life landed on an even keel and began to blossom.
Would any OTHER RELIGION have had that effect on me? I will never know....
But I do know this; the banterings of the Watchtower society and all of their little preachers are tolerated in our society like so many other middle tier fundamentalist christian religions. Life goes on; no one in the "real world" really cares....

Not Having Kids in 'This System....'
by lonelysheep inone of my former bs conductors and her husband decided when they got married, they wouldn't have any kids 'in this system'.
i know the world could be better, but i see no reason not to have children if that's what your wishes really are....and you're able to for that matter.
she just turned 34 and really wants to have a child.

yes, I knew other pioneers who felt that way.
But I always knew that I wanted a family and this whole " waiting for the new system" routine never made sense to me.
I suspect those who make the decision to not have a family , are only using the "waiting for the new system" slogan as an excuse.
Having children is a personal decision. Some just do not want the responsibility; and do not want to admit it. Other cannot have them for what ever reason.
In my case; they are my pride and joy; and really make my life worthwhile. I cannot imagine my life without them.

Dying for whats right???
by chuckyy inone of the things that i could not reconcile, which led to my disassociating myself was this:.
i have a daughter that needs open heart surgery.
my heart goes out to those parents who may have one time refused a blood fraction or even an organ transplant for their children because they believed at the time that it was scriptural.
-

I have never had to make that decision. I have 3 children and would do ANYTHING to help them in any circumstance. I cannot be any different than any other parent.
Good luck to your daughter; and you, chuckyy.

Some JWs Are "In The Closet"
by minimus inby that, i mean, some witnesses will not just now "out" themselves because of various fears and concerns.
some of us are still "in the closet".
so to speak, because we're not ready to expose ourselves to the "loving brothers", just yet---at least not 100 %.

Min,
why bother telling them? why waste your time? telling them only validates their beliefs IN YOUR HEAD that you HAVE to tell them ANYTHING; or dissacociate yourself by writing a letter...blah blah blah. You do not have to tell them anything.
I say, just stop going; stop seeing them ; stop ACKNOWLEDGING their "sheparding" calls to you.
If someone really wants to be your friend ( we all know THAT tune); well thats great. But why bother playing by their rules AT ALL anymore.
Of course, if you just want to BLAST them verbally, that is something else. It might vent the frustration and anger against them; but will only give them more cause to distance themselves, by their choice, from you.
just my 2 cents; I know you have it under control,
FRank

Why Is A "Non-violent" People So Violent To Its Young?
by steve2 inone of the anomalies of the jehovah's witness worldview is that it "carries" its non-violence hand-in-hand with some fairly violent practices towards its young ones.
so, the jehovah's witness father or mother who would reject any involvement in the military or "turn the other cheek" if physically attacked in field service, has no qualms about yanking their noisy child out of the kingdom hall and giving that child a good thrashing (i.e., beating on the buttocks, legs, arms and back) and creating an even greater noise.
i am not a parent, but over the years of observing parents - and others - hitting children both inside and outside the kingdom hall, it slowly occurred to me just what a barbaric practice this was.

I agree with your post....
especially the part about corporeal punishment being acceptable many years ago OUTSIDE of any religious persuasion.
However; I have noted that people on the lower end of economics and lacking any kind of education to know otherwise, continue to strike their children . Jehovahs witnesses ( also mostley uneducated by direction from WTBTS) like to use the scripture " spare the rod and spoil the child" to beat their children and justify the action.
I do not strike my children for discipline ; nor do any of my contemporaries.
